Trabajo derivado edit
-- Drini 14:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
To Siebrand: edit
I didn't add a license, since I uploaded the pictures as "from another wikimedia project", so I thought the system would apply the correct permission auromatically. Anyway, I already corrected the infoboxes in each picture and added the permissions as they are in the original pictures. Any more comments? Thank you for your observation.--Soljaguar 13:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- You might benifit from CommonsHelper. The GFDL license requires you to name author and source. CommonsHelper will do all of that for you - and more! :-) Siebrand 11:19, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Biergarten-en-verano.jpg edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Biergarten-en-verano.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. FP contribution edit
Dear Soljaguar, your contribution Jorge Volpi - FIL05.JPG is undersized. Please reupload a larger version. 2 megapix is the minimum requirement. Best regards --Richard Bartz 14:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Just to make clear - when I was complaining about the 1.92 Mpx, I wasn't criticizing you, I was annoyed at MichaelMaggs for being so picky. Some of the FP people can be jerks when they judge a pic. JaGa 02:45, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 02:08, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Please give images good descriptions edit
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing!

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture edit
Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Buzo.jpg). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:
http://www.freeenglishsite.com/
I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm
2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm
3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm
Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.
Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely, Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Saludos.--Giggette (talk) 21:11, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Please stop... edit
Please stop placing inappropriate {{Copyvio}} or {{Speedy}} tags. As a general rule, we use DRs for all DW issues, particularly in jurisdictions such as Mexico that have very broad FOP rules. If these works hang in a Mexican museum that does not charge an admission fee, then FOP applies. It may apply even if a fee is charged.
The Borgia images appear to be PD-Art. As I noted at ANB, FAMSI apparently makes claims on works that are clearly PD, so its assertions are certainly not a reason for a speedy deletion. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 11:20, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi James, thank you for your message. Could you please explain what does DR, DW, FOP, PD-Art and ANB? I really didn't understand your message and was like WTF? ~ KKCO Sol Jaguar | Let's talk
Sorry. We tend to use shorthand a lot, perhaps too much, and from your comments I guessed that you had more experience.
- DR -- a Commons:Deletion request, initiated by clicking on the "Nominate for deletion link in the tool box in the left column. Used for discussion of all but the simplest of deletion cases. See Commons:Deletion policy.
- DW -- Derivative work -- an image of a copyrighted work
- FOP -- Commons:Freedom of panorama
- PD-Art -- an image that might be a DW, but is PD because the underlying work is PD, and because the image itself does not have a copyright because of our policy on images of paintings, see Commons:PD-Art.
- ANB -- Commons:Administrators' noticeboard where you posted two messages.
As a general rule, if you run into an abbreviation that you don't understand, you can often look for an explanation at Commons:XX, or COM:XX -- that is true for all of these COM:DR, COM:DW, COM:FOP, COM:PD-Art, and COM:ANB.
If you have questions, you may ask them at the Village Pump in any of 42 languages or on my talk page. I will also watch for questions here on your talk page for at least a week. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 15:01, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
Reading my note above again, I see that I really hit a lot of abbreviations -- I really should have been more careful to link at least some of them. Sorry to waste your time. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 15:07, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- Our messages just crossed ways. Thank you for your answer, it's very illustrative. I am somehow new here at Commons, however, I have some good experience following copyright issues. I might just need to collect some more experience here to make it better. Cheers! ~ KKCO Sol Jaguar | Let's talk 15:12, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
- As I said in my template note above -- please do not hesitate to ask questions. We try very hard to help and encourage new users. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 15:16, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
Please do not mark a file as copyvio if {{PD-textlogo}} clearly applies. Jcb (talk) 01:21, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
